Outside Insight expands business with new coaches, new products.
Outside Insight, the coaching and mentoring services firm for lawyers, has taken on three new coaches and expanded the range of its products to cater for the growing demand for mentoring in the legal profession.
The new coaches provide extra depth and capability to a business which has in the two years since its formation acquired a reputation for the quality of its counselling.
The new coaches are: Robert Derry-Evans (formerly managing partner of CMS Cameron McKenna), William Mills (a management consultant and formerly partner of Cardiff-based law firm Geldards), and Teresa Glover (an outplacement specialist).
Jeremy Thomas, co-founder of Outside Insight, said: “Robert, William and Teresa will enable us to meet the growing demand for the different types of services that law firms and lawyers now require. All of them have experience of managing and dealing with lawyers at a senior level.”
Laurie Adams, also co-founder of Outside Insight, added: “We are very pleased with the development of Outside Insight in our first two years. We were planning to expand in the normal course of projected business growth, but the severe economic downturn, which has had a major adverse impact on law firms, has created extra need for our services, as lawyers at all levels review the next stages of their careers.”
Outside Insight provides coaching and mentoring during the key phases of the life cycle of the lawyer. To provide for the growing demand, Outside Insight is offering a new range of products, which include:
* Coaching and outplacement advice for partners approaching the end of their partnership career.
* Coaching for partners who have taken up new management roles.
* Coaching of management skills for partners generally, as the need to be an effective manager of a team becomes more recognised as a skill which partners should have.

Senior City lawyers launch coaching and mentoring firm
Jeremy Thomas and Laurie Adams today launched a new business, Outside Insight, to provide coaching and mentoring for lawyers in private practice and for in-house counsel.
Each of them has more than 25 years’ experience as a practising lawyer. Jeremy Thomas was a corporate partner at Allen & Overy for 16 years before his retirement at the end of last year. Laurie Adams was for four years the general counsel of ABN AMRO and, before that, general counsel for 10 years at Citigroup.
During their careers, both have held senior management positions and coached and mentored many lawyers. The new company brings together their combined expertise. “We want to use that expertise to help coach and mentor lawyers, at a time when lawyers have never been busier or under such pressure,” said Laurie Adams. “We can bring the additional benefits of an outside perspective, based on our time doing the job, and confidential advice.
Jeremy Thomas said: “Law firms know that to get the best out of their people they have to ensure that they help them construct a fulfilling career and maintain a balance between it and their personal lives, and this cannot be achieved simply by throwing more money at them.
